Your first vault
Create an identity, save your first record, and choose where your personal vault lives.
On this page
Start with the Windows app
Secretinio is an installed password manager for personal use and organizations. The current app is a Windows development release. Mobile app sources are implemented; platform validation and store releases are pending. You read documentation here; your vault opens in the installed app.
- Visit Downloads for Windows package availability and installation details. Extract the complete archive and keep the executable, native libraries, and data directory together.
- Open Secretinio and create your identity with a display name and master password. This identity can join multiple servers and organizations without a different master password for each.
- Save your separate recovery key. Export an encrypted backup from Security & settings and store it separately from that key. Recovery needs both.
Create a record
Select your personal vault, then create a record. Choose a type first: website, database, recovery key, API, server, secure note, or custom. Each type supplies its usual fields. Enter their values and add custom fields when needed, including masked password fields.
Use groups and nested groups to organize records. Search, favorites, and type filters help find them later. Record values, custom fields, and group names are encrypted by the app before storage.
Choose personal storage
- Local only: keep the personal vault on this device and make encrypted backups.
- My own server: connect to a trusted HTTPS server running in Public mode, enroll an authenticator, and enable continuous encrypted sync.
- Hosted personal service: planned. The default hosted service is not operating yet.
To use another Windows device, restore the same identity from your encrypted backup and recovery key, then enroll that device on the same server. Later changes sync while the apps are unlocked; conflicting edits require your choice. An identity backup is the initial transfer, not the ongoing sync mechanism.
Make unlocking convenient
In Security & settings, configure local Windows Hello after confirming your master password. Hello can use biometrics or a Windows PIN. Its enrollment stays on that device and is excluded from backups. Configure inactivity locking and clipboard clearing there too.
Local identity unlock does not unlock your organizations. Continue with organizations and sharing when you are ready to connect to a team.
Windows release availability
The Downloads page identifies available packages and any release limitations. If a Windows package is unavailable, wait for a published release. Keep the complete extracted archive together, including its executable, DLLs, and data folder.
